Chinese Social Organizations Successfully Hosted the 2023 AAAS Annual Meeting Special Forum in the United States for the First Time

Organized by Beijing International Exchange Association, the 2023 AAAS scientific session “Female Sci-Tech Talents Capacity Building on Entrepreneurship” was successfully held on the morning of March 3 at Washington Convention Center. Three experts from the U.S., Portugal, and China shared their experience on female entrepreneurship education and women empowerment from the perspective of realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2050, the supporting system of female entrepreneurs within the EU's Entrepreneurship Competence Framework, as well as China's efforts on promoting the capacity building of female sci-tech talents.

Ms. Meral Guzel, Head of Women’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator at UN Women shared the contribution of WEA in promoting several UN SDGs by strengthening the capacity of women in science and technology. Dr. Sara Medina, Board Member of Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) analyzed in detail the EU Entrepreneurship Competence Framework's support policies for female entrepreneurs. Dr. Lamei Wang, Associate Professor at College of Psychology from Shenzhen University and Visiting Scholar at Fairbank Center of Chinese Studies from Harvard University shared the great efforts made by China in stimulating female sci-tech talents to innovate and start their own business.

As the organizer and moderator of the 2023 AAAS scientific session “Female Sci-Tech Talents Capacity Building on Entrepreneurship”, Dr. Jieni Guo, Secretary-General of Beijing International Exchange Association mentioned that this event was the only one hosted by China at the AAAS Annual Meeting this year, with the support of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Science and Technology Section at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United States of America, which was a first for a Chinese social organization to apply and successfully host a forum at the AAAS Annual Meeting.
